COURSES FROM A COMPANY THAT CARES
Available Training Courses
Counterbalance Training
Counterbalance forklifts are the most common type of lift truck used today and are recognised for their versatility. They are essential for many industries and operate indoors and outdoors, making them highly practical for numerous material handling tasks.
Telehandler Training
Rough terrain telescopic trucks are indispensable on construction sites and farms. Equipped with large tyres and high ground clearance, they excel in difficult terrains. Many models also feature stabilising legs for enhanced stability and safe operations.
Reach Truck Training
Reach trucks are staples in warehouses, celebrated for their exceptional manoeuvrability and ability to access high racking. They are typically chosen for tasks prioritising height over weight, making them perfect for organised, vertical storage solutions.
Reach (Stand-On) Training
The reach (stand-on) truck is less common than the standard truck but offers similar manoeuvrability and functionality. In this case, the operator is seated instead of standing. These tiny-wheeled trucks are particularly suited for warehouses.
Pallet Stacker Training
Pedestrian pallet stackers are perfect for handling Euro Pallets. They are highly manoeuvrable, excel in narrow aisles, and can lift pallets into and out of racking systems. Some models can lift more than 1.6 tonnes to heights over 6 meters.
VNA Training
VNA trucks are designed to fit into aisles only slightly wider than the truck. They accomplish this using wire or rail guidance systems. They typically have a rated capacity of 1-1.6 tonnes, with some models capable of lifting over 15 metres.
Straddle Truck Training
Straddle trucks combine features of powered pallet trucks and counterbalance forklifts. Highly manoeuvrable, they excel in narrow aisles and can lift pallets into and out of racking systems, making them versatile for various material handling tasks.
PPT (Rider) Training
The rider version of the powered pallet truck is an electric, low-level lifting and moving vehicle. This manoeuvrable machine is perfect for all light-duty applications, including horizontal transport and loading and unloading vehicles.
PPT (Pedestrian) Training
Pedestrian-powered pallet trucks are often used to move pallets around supermarkets. They may also be used alongside other trucks in areas with limited access, such as mezzanine floors or basements, making them essential for efficient pallet handling.
LLOP Training
The low-level order picker is an electric-powered lifting and moving truck. The operator stands on a platform positioned in the centre or back. Designed for efficient order picking at low levels it can also be used for loading and unloading tasks.
MLOP Training
The medium-level order picker is an electric-powered lifting and moving truck. The operator stands on a platform positioned in the centre or back. These machines are designed for efficient order picking at medium heights (up to 3 metres).
HLOP Training
The high-level order picker is an electric-powered lifting and moving truck. The operator stands on a platform positioned in the centre or back. These machines are designed for efficient order picking at height, often at 15 metres.

Complying with the Law
Getting it Right is Crucial
Training staff isn’t optional but a requirement under health and safety law. The following statements are taken from the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974:
"It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees."
"...provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of his employees"
The following can be found in The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998:
"Every employer shall ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken."
"Every employer shall ensure that any of his employees who supervises or manages the use of work equipment has received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken."
Working around material handling equipment can be dangerous, making training essential. Choosing the right company for your training is an important decision. South Coast Forklift Training understands that health and safety in the workplace are paramount. That is why every course we deliver starts with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974. We explain the employer's and the employee's duties under this act and their responsibilities in helping their employer comply with the law.
Accredited Courses
Not All Courses Are the Same
Training must only be carried out by instructors who have been appropriately trained in instructional techniques and skills assessment. They need sufficient industrial experience to put their instruction in context and adequate knowledge of the working environment in which the trainee will operate.
Using a non-accredited instructor or organisation makes it much harder to prove that the training meets this required standard. That's why South Coast Forklift Training delivers Independent Training Standards Scheme & Register (ITSSAR) accredited training as standard. An accredited training company, such as ours, guarantees that the instructor is qualified and registered and has undergone regular independent examinations of their competence to deliver training to the required standard.
All accredited courses are recorded in a database for future reference; ours are on ITSSAR’s Trained Operator Passport Scheme (TOPS).
